Abstract

Cluster headache is characterized by clusters of unilateral headaches with cranial autonomic symptoms. The typical pain is localized in the area supplied by the first division of the trigeminal nerve. The cluster attacks are short-lasting, recurrent, and very intense, so acute abortive treatment and prophylactic therapy during cluster period are very important for the patients with cluster headache. Although the minorities, especially chronic cluster headaches, are intractable to drug therapy and demand other non-pharmacological interventions, fortunately, most cluster attacks are well respond to the harmacological management. Herein, we review the pharmacological treatment options for cluster headache.
